Edit Water Row, Govan, 1963
THIS picture takes us back to April 1963, when these four Govanites met up outside the Windsor Lounge.
Water Row, one of the
oldest streets in Govan, originally led down to a ferry crossing that linked up with Pointhouse in Partick.
Prior to 1784, when a chain-hauled ferry was introduced, oarsmen would row
passengers across the river.
It's strange to think that until 1911, when they were demolished, Water Row was lined with thatched cottages with crow-stepped gables.
